Jakop Janssønn

Jakop Janssønn is a drummer and composer from the Tromsø, the North of Norway.

He is one of the most in-demand musicians and composers of his generation in Norway and is used in many different bands in the norwegian and Saami music scene. He has a bachelor and masterdegree in jazz-perfomance at the Norwegian Academy of Music and has also a on year diploma in composition at the same academy.

He has been working full time as a freelance musician and composer since he graduated his bachelor degree in 2011. His main projects at the moment is being part of Marja Mortensson’s trio and his own band, Bricoleur.

In 2010 he got the 2. prize under NÖMME INTERNATIONAL JAZZCOMPETITION in Tallinn, Estland. He has participated at the norwegian jazz-competition called JazzIntro two times with Cinnamon Re:Source og Papirfly and in 2016 he received the Young Artist Of The Year Prize (UngKunst-stipendet ) at the Arctic Arts Festival.

In 2019 he got the Norwegian Grammy for the album Mohjtestasse in the genre traditional/folk music with Marja Mortensson and Daniel Herskedal.

Jakop has figured in fifteen albums, produced albums, written comissioned music for festivals, short films, documentaries and full-length features, toured and played at a vast amount of festivals in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Poland, Germany, Angola, Russia, Kazakhstan, France, South Africa and the Czech Republic and played with a horde of great artists.
